How important are cutaways when buying a guitar?
This is going to be my second acoustic guitar, acous/elec this time around though. I've been playing for 1yr8mths, I read a post in a forum that the higher frets on a cutaway acoustic are mainly for solos, which when starting out might not be that important. As I will be later switching on to play electric guitar, will the access to higher frets on a cutaway, make the switch easier or it won't really matter? and is there a large difference in guitar tone and volume between a cutaway and non-cutaway?
Is it also better to buy an acoustic guitar and then install a pickup later? or that is only for more expensive guitars? I have a budget of $420.
Thanks
Yes, yes, and yes.
Cutaways are made to make the top frets more accessible, making it ideal for solos on acoustic.
Dreadnoughts have a much better tone than cutaways (look at the real expensive martin's and taylor's they mostly feature dreadnoughts)
Acoustic sound better than acoustic electric. Its a mic-ing thing, guitars w/ an after-market pick up typically sound better.
Dude unless your gigging i would suggest you buy an acoustic w/o a pre-amp (so non-acoustic electric) and buy a good pick-up later. It'll sound a helleva lot better. Try a Big Baby Taylor, which is easy w/n your budget.
