ddoes this sound like a good enough grade to be put in the higher level band?
im in my schools band. i play the trumpet. i got a b on my written test, and an a on my written test. (my teacher doesnt give out a plusses) so overall, thats an a-. at my school, there are mixed bands. 7 and 8 graders. i know a person who got a b overall and isnt in the lower level band.
It depends on how your teacher promotes students. Most of the time, it at least partially depends on how many trumpet players he or she has in that group already. If the teacher wants ten trumpets, and he or she has nine returning, you're going to be competing with all the younger trumpet players for that one spot. Then you don't have to just be good, you have to be the best.
Also, it's rarely based on written tests. It would depend more on how well you play and what your work ethic is. Are you a hard worker? Are you the kind of student to whom he or she never has to repeat an instruction? Do you always do your best to practice the way he or she tells you to? These are the things Band Directors are looking for because they tell the director that you are going to be able to handle the increased difficulty in the higher group. Good luck!
