Why do my stereo speakers pop when bass runs through at a loud enough level?
I have a Panasonic SC-AK640S wired up with a pair of Technics SB-LX7. I wired the technics speakers through the subwoofer driver in place of the original sub but when i turn the volume up to a certain level, the speakers start to pop when enough bass is going through them. Im really confused why this is happening because they are the same ohms as the other speakers but they are making popping sounds still. Any help would be appreciated =D
A woofer is designed to move so far. Some woofers are designed better than others. Your's is exceeding the range of movement designed by the speaker manufacturer. This causes the pop or other unpleasant sounds coming from your speaker. It has nothing to do with ohms, it has to do with either your subwoofer is cheap and you should buy a higher quality one, or your amplifier has insufficient power to drive your subwoofer which is causing the amplifier to "clip" which also can make for an unpleasant noise. One more thing, your subwoofer may also be broken. Look for loose attachment around the speaker.
