Why is audio recorded from a concert always lack bass?

I noticed that many recordings of concerts have a problem with the bass, it is never really strong and full, and often sounds more like an echo, why is this and what microphone can be used to get a good recording using a mini disc recorder?

Microphones that people use to record concerts are not designed to record the massive bass you'll experience when actually there. They just can't pick up sound waves of that frequency. Think of it this way - look at the size of the speaker cones used to generate that sound, how's a little diaphragm an inch or so across supposed to do that justice?
