how much is a bundy b flat clarinet?
i need to buy a bundy b flat clarinet, but i don't know how much it cost or where to buy it.
Bundy was a very inexpensive student brand of the Selmer company many years ago. It was incredibly popular because of the cost and the fact that it's nearly indestructible. The equivalent from Selmer these days is the Selmer USA model 1400. (same model number as the Bundy was) The model 1400 had sold over 1-million by 1978 and it's still selling strong.
Fair Market Value (FMV) of a typical Selmer Bundy Bb Clarinet in playing condition is under $100. A repad, new corks, and adjustment on that instrument costs right around $100. That means that a Selmer Bundy clarinet that needs a repad service call has a FMV of $0. How much over $0 a particular instrument is worth depends on how much, if any, repair work it needs.
You can buy one on eBay for under $50 all day, every day. Just expect that any used instrument is going to need a service visit to your local repair shop and on this model that visit could cost $100. It could cost more if there's any damage to the instrument such as cracks or broken keys. That would give it a FMV of less than $0.
Don't let the values fool you though - these are outstanding instruments for a couple of purposes. Marching Band is an example - it's great for playing out in the weather and being tossed about.
