Im having problems with my 02 Dodge 1500, wont heat up the cab and smells musty?
My 2002 Dodge 1500 will not produce heat inside the cab unless Im going down the road or reving it up. It also smells musty, almost like dirt. Ive been told it could be the thermostat or the heater core. Can anyone give me more to go on? If its the heater core, how much am I looking to spend?
if its the heater core on it your looking at about 400 bucks to remove and replace it unless you can do it your self and they aren't easy to do on that truck,if its loosing any coolant at all and you cant find where its going to it may be leaking out under the carpet and causing it to sour or the heater box may be stopped up and causing the smell your smelling in it,old leaves and debris will gather up in the heater box and cause you to loose heat and also get that smell,a bd bend door will also cause the heat not to be as good,so you need to verify that both heater hoses are getting hot on it and then check in to why its smelling the way it is,chances are it may be the core bad,another sign of a bad heater core is when you use the defroster on it, it will fog the windshield up on it with a greasy film,that would be a mixture of coolant and water,check it out and let us know then we might be able to help you more with it,good luck.
