7 Tips Fitness for Women
Most women shy away from fitness training as they hold the misconception that they might end up looking all buff and might lose their softness and "womanliness". The secret is finding an effective fitness training program. This article contains some tips on being effective with your strength training program as women.
- Every person is different so it is vital that you find a program that works best for you. Consider your medical history when choosing your program just to make sure you do not aggravate any conditions you already have. Consult a qualified trainer as they can give you the various options that you can take. If you make the wrong choice and choose something that doesn't suit you, you will find fitness training unenjoyable and a source for injuries and frustrations.
- Be realistic with yourself and set targets that you can meet. If you don't set realistic goals and time frames you will only be frustrated. Make sure that what you aim for achievable and realistic. Don't give yourself false hopes and be practical. Know the various distractions that you may encounter in your day to day life so that you can plan ahead on your schedule. Once you've established which program you are going to do then get yourself started.
- Target exercises that work the parts of your body where there are muscles. This is because muscle development will burn more calories and reduce the amount of fat in your body. Find out the certain types of exercises that work on certain parts of your body. Do multi-joint exercises and weightlifting.
- When dealing with your muscles perform the workouts in a systematic manner. Increase the intensity of these workouts overtime. Record you daily progressions so that you can see how well you are doing over time.
- For each type of exercise try to do at least 10 repetitions. Do each successive repetition with less momentum to the best of your ability. This is because the less the momentum the harder your muscles are going to work and thus the better the results you will get for each workout.
- Try to be flexible in your choices for exercises to perform. Do a variety of exercises, have variety in your program so that things do not become monotonous.
- Have a source of motivation. Allow healthy competition on your workouts and try to learn as much as you can from experienced people or your trainer. Also be consistent in your work.
There definitely isn't a universal workout that is best for everyone. Workouts will have different results for different people. Work hard every day and you should find that things work out for you.

How do I know if my saddle fits?
I just got a new horse and I have an Eglish saddle that I love but I don't know what to look for to make sure it fits...any tips?
the saddle already works for me...I need to know if it works for the horse.
Saddle fitting is an organic art - the art of trying to achieve the best possible fit of an inanimate object to a constantly flexing and changing, living and breathing surface. It's incredibly important to get a saddle that fits your horse. It bears the whole of your weight, so if it's too tight, too loose, unbalanced, whatever, it will cause him considerable pain. If it's really bad, it will actually injure him. Anyone who has ever had saddle problems and then had them solved, can testify to the effects the horse moves more freely, riding is much easier and you're both generally happier and more comfortable.
To understand its importance to a horse, try wearing a pair of walking boots that are anything but your own size. Be creative - try ones that are too small, too tight, too narrow, or just uncomfortable on the heel. Or alternatively, try some that are much too big. Now go for a ten mile walk. But don't stop there, keep wearing them the next day and the next and the next. In fact, to really get the picture, try wearing the wrong size boots for five years of so. The results do not bear thinking about. But that is just the tip of the iceberg as far as some horses are concerned.
A pair of feet, once fully grown, tend to stay the same size. So once you have found a trusty pair of walking boots that fit you like a glove, you can keep on wearing them until they wear out. But it is not the same for horses. They change size and shape depending on the time of year, what they are fed, what their grazing is like, what kind of work they are doing, how healthy they are, what type of rider they have...
So, to get an even better idea of what a horse can feel like, buy yourself a pair of tight, non-stretch jeans. Now, completely change your diet and put on lots of weight. But keep wearing those jeans. Then take up a new energetic sport and turn all that fat into muscle. Try moving house, taking on a new job and finding a new partner all at the same time. Get rid of the car and walk to work. Do not eat. Then take a long, long holiday and eat as much rich food as you can manage. And so on. What you will find is that those jeans are fine when you are a size 12 but any fluctuation in your weight and shape and ouch! Finally, imagine that those jeans are made with a rigid structure and of almost inflexible leather...
# When riding, look down at your horse's shoulder - is the saddle sitting just behind the shoulder movement, allowing free movement underneath, or is it sitting 'on the movement', causing the horse to have to move underneath the saddle. This can be a major cause of reluctance to jump as the horse feels the restriction of the saddle on its shoulder movement.
# A saddle that 'sits well into the horse' can actually be biting into the horse. When the saddle is removed, check that there is no muscle damage and wastage around the wither area. A horse with wasted muscle will actually need to be fitted 'wide' to allow the muscle to grow back, and a thicker numnah used. Owner and saddler need to work closely together to rectify this problem.
# When you take the saddle off after a ride, there are uneven marks on your horse's back, clearly showing that it is sitting to one side, or unevenly. Flocking naturally settles and if you are constantly mounting and dismounting on the same side, or are sitting unevenly, the flocking will need checking and adjusting at least twice a year.
The best way to make sure your saddle fits is to have it checked by an experienced saddle fitter who'll advise you on alterations or help you choose a new one. A new saddle is likely to be one of the most expensive items you buy for your horse. In a well-fitting saddle your horse will be able to move freely and, by using his back muscles correctly, he'll develop a rounded, properly-balanced outline.
A badly-fitting saddle can do a lot of damage, leading to behavioral problems or lameness. Every horse deserves a well-fitting saddle, no matter how much he costs or what work he's doing.
The most important thing is to have your saddle regularly checked, by a professional saddle fitter, to make sure that it continues to fit the horse...
